Oprah Winfrey’s stepmother is going public with a feud she’s apparently had with the media mogul for years.
Barbara Winfrey, 66, spoke out in an interview with the Daily mail about how her famous stepdaughter is kicking her out of the marital home she’s shared for 14 years with Oprah’s dad, Vernon Winfrey, in the wake of their divorce.
“I have lost everything,” Barbara Winfrey said.
“It’s not just a house, this is my home. All my memories are here. I’m trying to keep it together, but there are some days I just don’t understand how I could have made her so angry that she would kick me out on the street and think nothing about it. But that’s Oprah — she’s judge and jury.”
In the explosive interview, which reads like an unloading of all of Barbara Winfrey’s gripes with her stepdaughter over the years, she says Oprah, 60, is reclaiming the Nashville home she bought for her father and stepmom in 2000 just because she can.
“It was a new home so we got to choose every part of it,” she recalled, about the lavish wedding gift.
“We signed so many documents, became part of the Housing Association. I was thankful of course. I never knew it was Oprah’s name on the deeds and that I was just on probation.”
“My husband once told me that just because someone gives you something does not mean they love you. He was talking about Oprah.”
But when her marriage to Vernon Winfrey fell apart, Barbara says her ex-husband convinced Oprah to quietly get her “out of the picture” — apparently by taking back the house.
“I know people have read about this and thought, ‘Who does she think she is? Why should she get a million dollar home?’”
“But can you see it’s not about that? It’s about everything that went before. Look at how she has treated me. I laid my head next to her father for 14 years and she never thought me worthy of talking to.”
Barbara Winfrey also tells the tabloid that Oprah is more “controlling” than the caring and giving persona she appears to be. While everyone around one of the world’s most powerful women are manipulated, she says, Barbara Winfrey never signed any of the confidentiality agreements.
Her stepmom even commented on the media mogul’s relationship with partner Stedman Graham — which she said is more about “shared secrets” than love — and Oprah’s much talked-about friendship with Gayle King, which she labels “bizarre” and “unhealthy.”
