Ahmed Musa Elated As CSKA Retains Russian Championship

Ahmed Musa’s joy knew no bound as CSKA Moscow retained the Russian Premier League title with a 1-0 home victory over city rivals Lokomotiv on Thursday.

Zoran Tosic’s second-half strike in the final day encounter helped CSKA claim a fifth Premier League title, after leapfrogging long-time leaders Zenit St Petersburg to top the table by one point.

Nigeria international, Musa, came on in the 79th minute for A. Dzagoev, on his work-out to full-match fitness after missing few weeks due to injury.

“I am very delighted to have won the league again,” Musa is quoted as saying on AfricanFootball.com.

“My target for the season was a league and cup double, but I thank God we won the league. It has not been easy but we battled through.

“I am happy to be back from injury and take part in this game.”

The 21-year-old Super Eagles forward was named in coach Stephen Keshi’s 30-man provisional World Cup squad, after been forced out of the previous edition with an ankle injury. He is well on course to feature for the African champions in Brazil.

CSKA finished with 64 points from 30 games, a point above Zenith St. Petersburg, who were handed a technical 3-0 defeat against Dynamo Moscow last Sunday when fan violence marred their penultimate game of the season.

Dynamo were leading 4-2 in the 86th minute when a few hundred Zenit fans invaded the pitch and one of them punched defender Vladimir Granat in the head, leaving him concussed.
