37 Armed Political Thugs Invaded Edo Assemly – Arrested By Police

At least 37 armed political thugs were detained by the police officers, Edo State, western Nigeria.

According to the information provided by the Edo State Police Command, 37 armed men invaded the state assembly on July 10, 2014. They were detained on suspicion of conspiracy, riotous act and unlawful assembly, a conduct capable of breaching the peace of the state.

The information was also confirmed by the press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Noble Uwoh. It reports on the armed suspects who penetrated a building with cutlasses, axes, broken bottles and stones used as missiles with a views to take control of the assembly.

The police image maker stressed out that although the command is not against any form of freedom of expression through peaceful demonstration or in any other peaceful way, but it will not allow to carry out violent protests comparable to the criminal acts. He also warned all political thugs and their patrons to stop criminal activities as it will be severely punished.

The crisis in Edo state started on 9 June, 2014 when the Deputy Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Festus Ebea, along with four other the People Democratic Party, PDP, members of the house have been suspended for alleged misconduct. On the next day there were reports about the suspension of the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Uyi Igbe.
