Di Maria’s Extra-Time Goal Takes Argentina Into Quarter Finals

Angel Di Maria scored an extra-time goal to lift Argentina into the Fifa World Cup quarter-finals, as Switzerland came calling for the South Americans’ heads.

The match had been deadlocked at 0-0 with just two minutes left to penalty shootout before the Real Madrid forward swept in captain Lionel Messi’s pass.

The two-time champions were unconvincing in their performance against an inspired Swiss and, despite dominating possession they were unable to break through the Europeans’ defence.
