Real Madrid announces Karim Benzema has penned a new five-year deal expected to keep him at the European champions until 2019.
The France striker, 26, moved to the Santiago Bernebeu in the summer of 2009 from French club Lyon and made his league debut in August same year.
He has since registered his presence as one of the best marksmen in world football, notching up 111 goals in 235 matches.
“Real Madrid C. F. announces the extension of Karim Benzema’s contract for the next five seasons until June 30, 2019,” the club tweeted on Wednesday.
He was named in the team’s European Champions League triumoh over city rivals Atletico Madrid last season, scoring five times in the elite club competition.
In total, his 24 goals in 52 matches helped Real claim a tenth European Cup and the Copa del Rey in the 2013/14 season, as his strong partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale upfront became a recurrent theme in coach Carlo Ancelotti-tuttored ‘galacticos’.
He has also won the League title and the Spanish Super Cup to add to his two King’s Cup winner’s medal.
His three strikes at the World Cup in Brazil helped France reach the quarter-finals, where they lost to Germany.
Benzema, who came through all the youth ranks of ‘Les Bleus’ has scored 24 times in 71 international caps.
