Dangote Invests $1bn In Agriculture

Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has expressed his plans to create more jobs through agriculture as he seeks more way to tackle Nigeria’s unemployment problem.

Dangote made this known on the occasion of the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth $1 billion with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

According to him, the investment will generate more jobs and reduce unemployment. He added that this will also “remove the fear that agriculture is a poor man’s job.

“Whenever you are importing something into the country, you are importing poverty and exporting your jobs out,” he said.

The business mogul, who acknowledged the efforts of the government also said that “it is not only the duty of the government to ensure that Nigeria is self-sufficient. The government has done its bit by providing support to protect the investments.

“With the new rice policy put in place by the president, I think it is only people who are not serious, that will still continue to import rice.”

Dangote also said that the investment would accommodate out-growers, stressing that his rice industry would give out-grower seedlings and fertilisers, and also guarantee to buy their paddy and process it.
