Confessing to his crime, Ekene who is a cobler, accused his deceased mother of being a witch and using her powers to prevent the family from progressing which was why he decided to kill her, Vanguard reports.

He said his mother used her witchcraft on her four surviving children as his 45-year-old elder brother was yet to get married and nobody in the area agrees to marry from his family.

According to him, his mother prevented the spirit of God from coming into the family and whoever she places a curse on, will cease to progress.

“I am the only one among her six children (two later died) that knew her secrets. When I confronted her by calling her ‘queen of the coast’, she tried to kill me, having known that I knew her secrets and that was why I decided to kill her first,” he said.

Explaining how he killed her, he said on that fateful day, he hit her with a big stick at night and she slumped and died. He then carried her a wheelbarrow to the Obukwu bush in the community where he burnt her body to ashes.

Ekene said some people in the community began suspecting something terrible had happened to her, after she was not seen for days and when he could not explain her whereabouts, he was banished from the community.

He then fled to Aba, Abia State where he continued with his business until he was nabbed by men of SARS.
Though he regretted killing his mother, he said when the kingdom of God finally comes, people would realise he did the right thing.

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Uche Eze, who paraded the suspect said investigation into the matter was continuing.
