Jonathan Commissions N9 B Governor’s Office Just 24 Hours After Students Protest

President Goodluck Jonathan commissioned nine billion naira governor’s office just 24 hours after medical students of Kaduna State University organized a protest against absence of teaching hospital and non-accreditation of their department.

A government source affirmed that Jonathan opened a nine billion naira Governor’s Office inside the Kaduna Government House built by the state government.

Governor Mukhtar Yero declaring the entire cost of the Governor’s Office, that took over nine billion naira to head of the country before the opening, said “The project about to be commissioned here today was executed in six phases at a total cost of nine billion, six hundred and thirty six million, five hundred and seventy eight thousand, one hundred and forty one naira, forty one kobo “N9, 636, 578, 141, .41k).

The Faculty of Medicine started in 2009 after optional stage of authorization by MDCN (Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria) in 2008 failed to deliver teaching hospital until two months ago when the first set of students admitted in 2009/2010 academic session were sent to Uganda for clinical studies that will last three years.

The students have duringthe protest said government put schooling fee of 29 students sent to Uganda at 150 million naira and keep 105 million naira totalling 255 million naira they claimed could been inserted into the non-functional teaching hospital and also solve main necessities for authorization or at least get a partial accreditation for the students to start medical studies while the work carries on.

This project proved how the government pays less attention to essential issues of health and education.

The development started in September 2009 when Vice President Namadi Sambo was Kaduna State governor.
