 1. Creativity

Almost everyone knows that Femi Fani-Kayode writes expressive speeches and essays about our political situation and life. But it can be a surprise for you that he writes poems as well.

In November 2009 Fani-Kayode wrote a poem titled “I Stand and I Fight”. In this poem he described Yar’Adua as a “sickly tyrant with an amalekite foundation” and he predicted that “his end would soon come”.

2. Arrests

He was arrested twice. Both times he was charged with money frauds. The first time was in July 2008. He was investigated in connection with the alleged misappropriation of a 19.5 billion naira “Aviation Intervention Fund”.

The second arrest happened in December 2008 when he was charged with 47 counts of money laundering. FFK stated that he was innocent, and these allegations were politically motivated.

3. Family

Femi Fani-Kayode was married three times. Now he is happy with his wife Mrs. Regina Fani-Kayode (nee Hanson-Amonoo). She is from a distinguished Ghanian family. She works as a pastor and a rising figure in the ministry of the Evangelical church.

4. Awards

Femi Fani-Kayode has won and has been honoured with many awards. They include the City People Magazine Minister of the Year Award in 2007, the certificate of Merit Award by the Southern Youth Foundation in 2006, the Preservation of Cultural Values of Nigerians Award by the Federal Ministry of Culture and Tourism in collaboration with Festive Friends in 2006 and many others.

In the one of his latest essays he stated:

“The bottom line is as follows: you may hate us and seek to shame and humiliate us but God loves Nigeria and His purpose for our nation, whether you like it or not, shall surely come to pass.

“God bless Nigeria and may He continue to deliver us from our enemies, preserve our unity, defend our shores and protect our borders.”

Femi Fani-Kayode was born in Lagos, Nigeria on 16th October 1960 to Chief Remilekun Adetokunbo Fani-Kayode and to Chief (Mrs) Adia Adunni Fani-Kayode. He is a lawyer, politician, an evangelical Christian, an essayist, a poet and he was the Special Assistant (Public Affairs) to President Olusegun Obasanjo from July 2003 until June 2006.

FFK was appointed the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from June 22 to November 7, 2006, and as the Minister of Aviation from November 7, 2006, to May 29, 2007.

During the summer 2014 he left the All Progressive Party (APC) for the ruling party, People Democratic Party. He explained that:
“My reasons for leaving the party are because I consider nation-building as being far more important than party politics, party affiliation or party formations”.
