President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday urged political office seekers to shun desperation, saying that their ambitions should never be ‘do or die’ in the interest of the nation.

The president made the appeal at Otuabula 2, the headquarters of Ward 13 in Ogbia, while monitoring the conduct of the PDP’s congress in Bayelsa.

Mr. Jonathan also warned the leadership of the party at all levels against the imposition of candidates for various offices.

The president said that such a stance could adversely affect the fortunes of the party in the forthcoming general elections in the country.

He, however, urged all the candidates to be loyal to their party leadership.

He commended the peaceful conduct of the Ward Congress of the PDP in Bayelsa.

Blessing Odeh, the Ward Chairman, later presented Mr. Jonathan with membership card number 2851001.

The First Lady, Patience Jonathan, was also presented with membership card number 2851002.

Speaking in similar vein, Governor Seriake Dickson lauded the leadership and members of PDP for their peaceful conduct during the ward congress of the party in the state.

Mr. Dickson, who participated in Tarakiri Ward 2 at Angalabiri in Sagbama Local Government area of the state, said the members’ conduct was a further confirmation of the unity and stability in the party in the state.

The governor described the emergence of a female delegate among the three winners as a demonstration of his administration’s advocacy for increased women participation in politics.

He said that his administration would continue to give the needed support to the women of the state.

In a related development, the Deputy Governor of the state, Gboribiogha John Jonah, a retired Rear Admiral, expressed appreciation to members of the party in Nembe Ward 3 for their impressive turnout during the Ward Congress.

Speaking after the Ward Congress elections at Nembe, Mr. Jonah thanked PDP faithful for their peaceful conduct.

He urged them to continue to support the Transformation Agenda of President Jonathan and the administration of Governor Dickson.
