IK Uche Not Under Pressure

Ikechukwu Uche says he is not under pressure to score goals for Nigeria on his return to the squad after more than one year hiatus.

The Villareal striker, who last featured for the Super Eagles in the final of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, was recalled by the reinstated Stephen Keshi following a prolonged period of apathy among coach and player.

“It’s always an honour to play for my country and I am ready to give my best,” the 30-year-old declared.

Uche returns on the heels of a crucial Afcon qualifier away in Congo, where Nigeria must win by- at least- a couple of goals to keep qualification hopes alive. However, the striker does not envisage extra pressure to deliver when he eventually takes to the pitch in Point Noire on Saturday.

“I am not under any pressure to deliver, but the team spirit is high and as a team we would together do our best to qualify our country,” he said.

“We have a very important game ahead of us and I am here to help my country qualify.”
