Attack by alleged supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Nigeria’s commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces continued in Bauchi days after his convoy was stoned in Katsina, with at least six security aides attached to him injured in the onslaught on his motorcade on Thursday, after he addressed a political rally in the state.

President Goodluck Jonathan was on his way to Bauchi airport, when youths wielding brooms, the logo of the opposition party, and chanting “sai Buhari” pelted his convoy with stones. Some of the stones thrown caught some of the bodyguards protecting him. They however responded with canisters of tear gas in an attempt to disperse the crowd.

The attack however, did not stop the president, who after finding his way to the airport, left for Makurdi, Benue State, to continue his electioneering campaign.

A massive crowd had welcomed Jonathan at the Bauchi rally, where he promised the people that his government would continue doing its best for them, vowing that no “retrogressive forces” could force the PDP out of government.

He appreciated the people for the large turnout, saying that no amount of opposition could halt the good work his administration was doing for Bauchi people.

He therefore urged them to vote for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidates at all levels, adding that his administration would continue to empower youths with education, skill acquisition programmes and job creation, so as to prevent them from being used by politicians to perpetrate violence.

“This state has strong agricultural potentials. We have been building dams across the state to boost the sector.

“The people who are instigating us cannot tell us what they they have done for us. Keep supporting the PDP. We will work with you for more democratic dividends,” he said.
