According to a report on Sahara Reporters, Jonathan is seeking help from a group of Pentecostal pastors on ways to solve the ‘Osinbajo’ problem.

President Jonathan was said to have held a meeting last Thursday in Abuja with a number of Pentecostal pastors led by Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners Chapel, where he reportedly confessed that, “Osinbajo is my problem.”

At the meeting organized by the Executive Secretary of the National Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) John Kennedy Okpara, President Jonathan was said to have admitted that running against a leading Pastor of the RCCG, who is also close to the General Overseer of the church, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, is an uphill task.

Sources at the meeting disclosed that the president said all was fine until the APC picked Osinbajo as Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate.

Osinbajo, a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), law professor and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN emerged as Buhari’s running mate last month.

Before the meeting with the president, the pastors met that same day to strategize and agree on how and what they would present to Jonathan.

There were suggestions that they cease the opportunity and talk to Jonathan about their fears on growing insecurity in the North with Boko Haram killing and attacking Christians and other innocent Nigerians.

But Oyedepo reportedly insisted they encourage and strengthen the President ahead of the elections rather than bring up national issues of concern to majority of Nigerians. Most of the pastors who were disappointed with Oyedepo’s suggestion decided to keep silent so as not to be seen as spoilsports.

Later, at the meeting with the President, the pastors reportedly assured Jonathan that they would use every device at their disposal including the pulpit to campaign in his support and against Buhari-Osinbajo ticket.

After the meeting, they were said to have gathered once again to device strategies they will use to campaign against Buhari/Osinbajo, with the main scheme being to label the ticket as an Islamist one.

Report has it that Bishop Oyedepo has already started using the pulpit to achieve the goals set out at last Thursday meeting in Abuja as he raised Some of the members said yesterday Sunday January 18, Bishop Oyedepo raised a prayer point that an Islamist would not become the President of Nigeria in the polls coming next month during service on Sunday.

Recall that Prof Osinbajo had asked Nigerians to disregard rumours in some quarters that the mission of the APC presidential candidate, Buhari is to Islamise Nigeria, if he wins the February elections.

He said nobody can Islamise or Christianise Nigeria.

  1. Any Pastor who decides to leave his calling, first love and province to politicise the pulpit is on his own.
No Pastor can intimidate anybody to vote for any candidate against his conviction. So let them continue to commercialise the pulpit. GOD is watching.

  2. It is the biggest shame and distraction that big pastors are engineering to mislead the christian bodies. Imagine the “I don’t care attitude” of oyedepo not given concern for the killing of Christians and others in the north but only matters with how the president should not be discouraged. Has he thought of how many children will cry as orphans till the end of their lives? Or women as widows for life? Or men as empty with no beloved ones for life? Shame on men who prefer lies than truth. God will surely judge them soonest…and His will only will be done.
