Abia Warriors Down Dolphins in a Rescheduled League Match

Abia Warriors defeated Dolphins FC to secure their first win of the Glo Premier League season on Thursday.

Goals from Ndifreke Effiong and Chisom Chikatara helped the Umuahia-based outfit scrape three points in a rescheduled fixture, despite Emeka Atuloma’s late strike.

The Warriors now have four points from three matches, while Dolphins have yet to record a point after two rounds of fixtures.

A heavy downpour caused the game to be aborted at half-time on Wednesday, with scores evenly poised at goalless.

On resumption of play on Thursday, Effiong broke the deadlock on 69 minutes, lobbing the ball over Sunday Rotimi from close range after the Dolphins goalkeeper had made two smart saves to deny Chikatara.

The visitors poured forward for an equaliser but were pegged further behind as Chikatara tapped in to double Warrios’ lead after Rotimi failed to gather a powerful delivery from former Dolphins stalwart Bolaji Sarkin.

Atuloma pulled one back for the Port-Harcourt side in the 90th minute from an Omo Johnson assist, but it was too little too late.
