Former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has debunked the rumour that his mother, Eunice ‘Amazon’ Kalu, is ill and has been abandoned.

In a statement by his media office and signed by Mrs. Ruby Obinna, the business mogul insisted that his mother was healthy and that his family remained the most important part of his life.

The statement read in part: “It is unfortunate that the detractors and traducers of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu will not stop blackmailing him on some online media platforms. In the past, many stories were cooked up against the kind and humble Kalu, who is a giant in the entrepreneurial and philanthropic worlds.

“About two years ago, it was awash everywhere that Kalu’s mother, Eunice, was on a life support machine. This prompted journalists to travel to Igbere – the hometown of Kalu – to find out if the story was true. Those that went found out that not only was she hale and hearty, she even supervised the food and drink that the guests ate and drank.

“The same story has surfaced again. This time, it is alleged that Kalu has distanced his mother because she is critically sick. The truth is that Madam Eunice is not sick and Kalu will not be forced to speak about such stories.

“He is a man who loves his family and has nothing to hide about it. If indeed his mother is sick, he will not hide it because he considers his family the most important thing in the world for him.

“Kalu relates with his family so much that he would stay in the village for weeks as his schedule permits, showing that his family relationships stay strong right through. His mother still secures an emotional base where her children feel loved and accepted. In Kalu’s family everybody supports each other and there is no segregation whatsoever. The relationship that Kalu has with his family has helped it grow into a well-considerate and caring one. He dislikes any issue that can cause tension among the family members and this does not mean that he listens to the blackmail of detractors, who have tried every means to pull him down, but could not.

“Kalu remains in the consciousness of the nation and his simplicity moved a cousin of General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB), Kiari Hammed, who used to work with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), to introduce Kalu to IBB in Maiduguri. And their relationship has grown stronger. Kalu does not abandon his friends, let alone his family members.

“He is a husband and a father of five children and he puts his family first in everything he does. No matter what any person writes against Kalu, he is always excited about his family and the members make him happy”.
