Rooney Out Of Man Utd Champions League Opener

Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney has been omitted from the trip to PSV Eindhoven because of injury.

The England international missed Saturday’s 3-1 home win over Liverpool through a ligament injury and manager Louis van Gaal has opted against rushing him back into the squad.

As expected, Rooney will now miss Tuesday’s Uefa Champions League opener against Dutch champions Eindhoven, but could return for Sunday’s league game at Southampton.

Marouaine Fellaini and Anthony Martial, who made his Premier League debut and scored a superb goal against the Reds, have both been included in the 20-man squad.

James Wilson and Andreas Pereira, who suffered an injury while away with Brazil’s Under-23, will also travel with the team.

United’s traveling squad: David De Gea, Sergio Romero; Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian, Paddy McNair, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Antonio Valencia; Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Andreas Pereira, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Juan Mata, Ashley Young; Memphis Depay, Marouane Fellaini, Anthony Martial, James Wilson.
