Bayelsa Declares One-week Mourning Over Alamieyeseigha’s Death

Bayelsa State Government has declared one week of mourning in honour of the first civilian governor of the state, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, who died on Saturday.

According to a statement by the Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Esueme Dan-Kikile, all flags are to fly at half mast for the period and all official government engagements remain cancelled until after the mourning period.

“Government is working closely with the Alamieyeseigha family to give the former governor a befitting burial,” he said.

Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha died at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital UPTH after a brief illness. He was 62.
