Group Petitions Senate, Buhari Over Nomination Of Amaechi As Minister

Rotimi-Amaechi

An anti-corruption group, Integrity Group, has petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari and the Senate in protest of the nomination of the former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi as a ministerial nominee.

The group urged Amaechi to first clear his name over allegations of fraud concerning the sale of state power plants and conversion of proceeds of $302million, unlawful payment of over N4 billion to Clinoriv Specialist Hospital and unlawful enrichment of firm, Messrs Collect Nigeria Ltd with public funds amounting to over N1.5billion.

Publicity Director of Integrity Group, Mr. Livingstone Wechie, who addressed newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, further alleged that Amaechi is currently being investigated by anti-corruption agencies for unlawful enrichment and conversion of over N70billion state resources. But the former Governor has resisted efforts to get him to explain the circumstances regarding the monies to the people of Rivers, as he failed to appear before the recent Justice Omereji-led Judicial Commission of Enquiry set up by the state government.

Amaechi refused to appear before the judicial commission of inquiry probing his administration’s sale of valued public assets as he claimed that the panel was illegal. However, he maintained that he had no skeleton in his cupboard and would honour the invitation of a legally constituted panel.
