Sheriff Acting Out Sponsors’ Script To Destabilize PDP – Ex-Minister

Ali Modu SheriffA former Minister of Transport and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, has alleged that the embattled national chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, is being sponsored by some faceless persons to ensure the party remains in disarray.
Mr. Babatope was reacting to Monday’s ‘takeover’ of the national secretariat of the PDP by Mr. Sheriff and his supporters despite the formal handover of the party’s leadership to the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee by the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT).
The embattled national chairman, who was sacked during the party’s controversial national convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State last month, stormed the Wadata Plaza National Secretariat of the PDP in company of the erstwhile national secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo and others, but was prevented from gaining entry by policemen stationed at the entrance of the building.
Mr. Sheriff, who addressed a press conference outside the Wadata Plaza, insisted that a court in Lagos had already confirmed him as chairman of the PDP until 2018.
Babatope, a member of the party’s BoT, however, faulted Sheriff, saying he had no right to seek entry into the party secretariat since the party’s BoT and supporters had handed over the leadership of the party to the Makarfi caretaker committee.
“The BoT has handed over the leadership of the party to Makarfi, who is the Chairman of the caretaker committee. He has the support of not only the BoT but also the support of all the sincere PDP members who are looking for justice in the party and who are looking for victory in 2019”.
“So, it was a right for the police and other security agents to deny Ali Modu Sheriff entrance into the party secretariat. It is now clear that Ali Modu Sheriff is carrying out a mission and a sinister plan that is sponsored by his masters who don’t want stability in the PDP. They will soon be exposed by the grace of God”, he said.
