Police Arrest Serving Soldier While Robbing Bus In Imo

A serving soldier attached to the 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi State, Bright Nwogwugwu, has been arrested and paraded by the Imo State police command while robbing a bus in the state.

The command also paraded one Arinze Onyeyiri, a member of the Nigerian Boy Scout, for operating with Army uniform.

The duo were among 30 suspects arrested by the command in connection with various crimes in the state, ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, house breaking and child trafficking.

Parading the suspects before newsmen at the police command headquarters Owerri, the state capital yesterday, the Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakano, said that Nwogwugwu, who hails from Ohaji in Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo State, was arrested at Ohoba/Asah road Ohaji while robbing a driver of a bus.

Speaking to reporters, the 23-year-old soldier pleaded guilty.

The CP also said the Onyeyiri, 25, who is from Uli in Anambra State, was arrested along Nkwuorji Umuaka road leading to Onitsha road with army uniform, extorting innocent persons.

Items recovered from him, according to the CP, included one army T-shirt, cap, uniform and handkerchief

Also paraded is Chinyere Amadi, who was accused of stealing a child at Obinze in Owerri West LGA, who hailed from Amaraku in Isiala Mbano LGA of the state.

Mr. Lakano said that the suspect was arrested for involving herself in stealing a 4-year-old boy identified as Uchechi from a restaurant at FUTO junction, Obinze.

Amadi, however, said that she did not steal the child, which she claimed to be a child of a mad woman.

According to her, she only carried the child because she saw him moving about aimlessly, adding that she was surprised to find herself in police custody.
