A policeman in Makurdi, Benue State capital, has allegedly killed a commercial motorcyclist over N50 bribe. The incident reportedly happened along Aliade-Awajir Road in the state capital.
According to reports, the policeman had engaged in an argument with another motorcyclist who refused to pay him N50 as bribe when the deceased who is also a motorcyclist arrived at the scene to settle the dispute between the policeman and his colleague.
The negotiation and pleading by the deceased did not go down well with the policeman who angrily cocked his gun and allegedly shot the diseased on the forehead, killing him instantly.
According to eye witnesses, irate youths aghast at the police officer’s ‘dastardly’ action, took to the street to protest against the okada man’s murder, threatening to burn down the police station unless immediate steps are taken to bring the trigger-happy cop to book.
