The World Heavyweight Champion, Tyson Fury has voluntarily vacated his WBA and WBO titles.
Fury who defeated Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015 has not fought since then. Despite agreeing to a rematch with Klitschko, Fury pulled out of two planned matches citing a medical condition.
Fury took to Twitter a few weeks ago to announce his retirement but announced hours later that it was just a prank.
Tyson Fury was reported to have tested positive for cocaine, a report which he has now admitted. He claims he had used it to deal with depression.
In a statement released on Thursday, Fury said,
“I now enter another big challenge in my life which I know, like against Klitschko, I will conquer,”
He said it was “for the good boxing” and “only fair and right” to give up his belts.
“I won the titles in the ring and I believe that they should be lost in the ring, but I’m unable to defend at this time and I have taken the hard and emotional decision to now officially vacate my treasured world titles,”
