Twitter Introduces New Anti-Troll Measures

Twitter has finally rolled out new anti-troll measures to combat the growing issue of abuse and harassment on the social network.

Many celebrities have quit the network over concerns of cyberbullying, stumping Twitter’s ability to grow its active users. Twitter said in a statement on Tuesday, “Because Twitter happens in public and in real-time, we’ve had some challenges keeping up with and curbing abusive conduct. We took a step back to reset and take a new approach, find and focus on the most critical needs, and rapidly improve,”

A new and expanded ‘mute’ function has now been introduced allowing users block out words and phrases from their timelines. Users can also mute whole conversations.

Users can also report abuse on the platform with a new array of options when reporting an issue. Twitter’s not done yet as it disclosed “We don’t expect these announcements to suddenly remove abusive conduct from Twitter,” the company said. “No single action by us would do that. Instead we commit to rapidly improving Twitter based on everything we observe and learn.”
