Shiites Protest: Buhari Mourns Channels TV Reporter, DCP Umar

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his deepest sympathy to the families of the young corps member with Channels TV, Precious Owolabi and the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Usman Umar who died during the bloody protest in Abuja on Monday.

The members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria(IMN) had staged a protest at the nation’s capital over the continued detention of their leader, Ibraheem El Zakzaky by the federal government.

The protest soon turned bloody as bullets and teargas were fired, leaving commuters and motorists scampering for safety.

A corps member, Owolabi was said to have been hit by a stray bullet that claimed his life. A similar event played out as DCP Umar was shot during the clash.  It was gathered that two Shiites protesters lost their lives in the incident.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Buhari wrote: “I most deeply commiserate with the families of Precious Owolabi, an NYSC member with @channelstv, & Deputy Commissioner of @PoliceNG, Usman Umar, of the FCT Police Command, who died during the violent protest by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) in Abuja yesterday.”
