The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) says states are taking precautionary measures to ensure the outbreak of Lassa fever, a deadly virus is contained. Earlier, three persons two doctors and a patient believed to be the index case, had died of the disease at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano, recently.As of now, 292 persons have been put on watch list over the disease.

Amotekun Remains Illegal: AGF Malami

Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation, says the regional security outfit established by governors of the south-west code named “Operation Amotekun’ remains illegal.

The attorney-general of the federation reiterated his position in a statement on Thursday by Umar Gandu, his spokesman, on his behalf.

He said, “By asking for the state governments of the Southwestern Nigeria to proceed to enact the necessary laws, in justifying the legality of the establishment and operation of Amotekon, Mr. Femi Falana is reaffirming and reiterating the Federal Government’s stance that the establishment of the operation currently is illegal. ”

Southwest Governors, FG Reach Agreement On Amotekun

The federal government and southwest governors have reached an agreement to draw up a legal framework for the Western Security Network code-named: Amotekun. This was disclosed by Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo state, to state house correspondents at the end of a meeting Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo had with the six governors from the region on Thursday.

Nigeria Drops On Transparency International’s 2019 Corruption Index

Nigeria has dropped two places in the latest ranking on the annual corruption perception index published by Transparency International. In the 2018 report, Nigeria ranked 144 out of 180 countries surveyed by the organisation. Nigeria is now ranked 146 out of the 180 countries considered in the recently released report. Nigeria also scored 27 out of 100 points in the 2018 CPI, maintaining the same score as in the 2017 CPI, the same as it did in 2018. The score is below the global average of 43.
