Six Men Arrested For Allegedly Raping 12-Year-Old Girl In Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested six men for raping a 12-year-old girl in Katagum Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, revealed this in a statement on Friday, January 27, 2023.

He said the suspects, who are between the ages of 40 and 50, confessed to knowing the minor sexually after luring her with gifts worth between N100 and N200.

“The case was referred from the Lower sharia court, Yayu town Chinade district Katagum LGA on the 18th of January 2023 for discreet investigation regarding a 12-year-old girl who was raped on different occasions,” the statement read.

“A discreet investigation was conducted by the Gender Unit attached to SCID Bauchi state Police Command.

“However, the investigation pointed to the following suspects, namely; Mustapha Kawu, 40, Abubakar Bello, 50, Idriss Yakubu, 40, Nasiru Dalhatu, 40, Idris Sarkin Ruwa, 50, Abubakar Jallaba, and Mustapha Kawu, 40, all of Yayu village, Katagum LGA.”

“The suspects confessed to have on different occasions enticed the little girl with monetary gifts ranging from N100 to N200 naira and have carnal knowledge of her.”

“During the interrogation, all the suspects confessed to have had carnal knowledge of the underage victim.”

“It is pertinent for members of the public to know that Rape is a capital offence and also against humanity and good conscience. Section 283 of the penal code, Section 1(2a-c) of the VAPP ACT of Bauchi state prescribes the punishment for Rape.

“During the investigation, the detectives of the Command uncovered all facts and points to establish a prima-facie case against the accused persons respectively.

“The Commissioner of Police CP Aminu Alhassan psc (+) directed that the suspects be charged to court to face the full wrath of the law as justice will be served to the accused, the victim, and the society at large.”
