Relegation strugglers, Aston Villa have parted company with manager, Paul Lambert following Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat at Hull City.
The Scottish boss leaves the Villans in 18th position and with the lowest goal tally of all the 20 teams in the English top flight- 12 goals in 25 league games.
Villa have not won in 10 Premier League matches and last night’s defeat by Hull consigned them to the drop zone, with 22 points. Some disgruntled fans held up ‘Lambert Out’ banners, during the match at the KC Stadium.
Villa said in a statement: “The club would also like to place on record its thanks to Paul and take this opportunity to wish him every success in the future.
“The club will announce a new manager in due course.”
First-team coach Scott Marshall and goalkeeping coach Andy Marshall will be in charge of the first team for Sunday’s FA Cup tie with Leicester City at Villa Park.
The former Scotland international was named Villa manager in June 2012, succeeding Alex McLeish and guided the side to a 15th place finish in his first season, though with a relatively younger squad. He signed a contract extension, which was expected to keep him at the club until June 2018, on 17 September.
The 45-year-old sought for experienced players in the summer transfer window as opposed to his first two seasons and following an impressive start, which saw him claim 10 points out of an available 12 in their opening four matches, the goal drought crept in at it has been a downward trend since then.
Among the early favourites for the job are former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood and USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsman.
