House Of Reps Ask FG To Reverse Fuel Subsidy Removal

The House of representatives in an emergency session today labelled the removal of fuel subsidy illegal and asked the Federal Government to reverse its decision to remove the subsidy on fuel.

The  Representatives adopted a motion urging “government to suspend its decision on the removal of (the) fuel subsidy in appreciation of the mood of the nation and allow more room for consultations.”

The lawmakers also urged labour unions “to suspend the intended strike action and submit to further dialogue on the matter.”

  1. The removal of fuel subsidy is a right step to take cos I support it wit every conviction I have. Why most Nigerians are agitating is because of ignorance, they haven’t being enlightened about it that’s what causing the uproar of conflict.
Let’s take a better step in helping our Nation. What do you think? we can come together like this to combat Boko Haram and the monster would be banished from us.
Nigerians are always united when it comes to something bad.

  2. I support d deregulation. These monsters that are sucking us dry will want 2 do anything 2 keep stealing our money. My position is dat govt shuld go ahead wt d policy bt shuld repair n build new refineris. These vampires culd even bribe our lawmakers n labor so dat they culd continue sucking us dry. I‘m unemployed wt a family bt i support d deregulation bcos it will bring better things. God bless Nigeria

  3. people hould not be made to suffer for the inefficiency of the Govt. if repairing refineries will work, Let GEJ borrow money and do it.
In Nigeria, you don’t attempt to take millions from the mouth of politicians and they keep quiet, why is nobody fighting against the subsidy removal
who are those embessling the funds, GEJ’s very own appointed co-poltical office holders. are they above the Law, what’s EFCC ‘s duty, must the masses suffer because someone is making money fraudulently.
Let the FEC remember and put it in mind that most Nigerians are living on below a dollar per day, if petrol cost that much, the children will soon start “going to school barefooted”. the “books will run from school” and that is not what we were promised.

  4. I pray that government should reverse back the fuel price to N65 per litre.this increase is affecting our living and making things difficult.the best government should do as a newyear resolution is to motivate the citizens by increasing there salaries and paying them at the appropate time.Nigeria is a Democratic country, the govenment should hear from the masses before taken any drastic move that will favour only themselves and their families without thinking of people they were governing.

  5. The removal of fuel subsidy wil have not been a problem if the Govt have already convinced the masses by implementing the ideal of electric train n also atleast three of our refineries would have been workin before the removal of fuel subsidy. In the same vein, Govt should make it compulsory for the increased in minimum wage to about 50%.

  6. despite the fact that everybody would be affected we will go on strike because 45% of nigerian has been killed during protest, some were arrested buy police so i think nothing is stopping individual not to strike infact including nigerian police force, lagos state fire safty services.

  7. d strike is d only solution to d gudluck’s autocratic decisions in dis our anarcheous country,so that every aspect of d economy will b e stopped for him to know how far d masses are suffering and to redecide on his motions. At d one wit d previous comment u think all nigerians are ignorants except u o what? All d protesters including d professional bodies are ignorants?

  8. d opinion of gvt.is gud but why govt. Did not negociate it with house before he decided.ones again what he want did it woulld not favour d poorer bcos if i want take okada 4rm one place 2 anoda u will spend more than #500.wit situation of nigeria nowaday is not easy.

  9. If d FGN can not deal with d few benefiting from dis subsidy now, d same people will now become rail way contractors and will still get d contract to build our rail way, roads etc and get what they will chop d money and not d work and FGN will do nothing

  10. Its really a shame that even our so called law makers that once supported the subsidy removal now thinks its a bad idea. This is a clear show of bribery and corruption. It’s only the mis-informed that would still be protesting and striving over the subsidy removal. The only problem with Nigerians is that one; a larger percentage isn’t educated, two; we are not ready to make any sacrifices, not to talk of patriotism and finally, we always wanna eat our cake and have it back, which is not possible. We have been praying for change and for once in the history of Nigeria, A man rises up to bring that change, not minding the challenges and war his counterparts might bring to him, and here are Nigerians, complaining again, just because they’re never wiling to sacrifice. If fuel subsidy is brought back, do Nigerians think it would affect Jonathan in any way? Why can’t Nigerians reason for once? NLC is shouting and threatening strike, have Nigerians wondered why? Have nigerians wondered why petroleum marketers are bribing and throwing money around to various organizations, cooperate bodies and even government bodies just to make sure that the fuel subsidy removal is reverted? Nigerians think that the NLC president that is parading around wants to help, only if they new how much he has in his account now because of his action to shut the labour down. If all these people were really interested in the country, NLC should knw better that shutting down labour wouldn’t affect GEJ in anyway, but the por masses, which would inturn increase corruption and violence. That’s what their plans are, to make sure the country is ungovernable, but if God be God, and if GEJ was put there by him, then God will arise, and all his enemies will be put to shame in the Name of Jesus Christ that i serve. Amen.

  11. goodluck jonathan is a deceived president. He is Very insensitive to the plight of the masses , probably because he is a zoologist. Why on earth should we have crude oil and yet pay for pms as much as those who dont have oil. I support the strike 100%. Let the confused and heartless madam okonjo-iweala be fired period!

  12. remuval of fuel subsidy is illega so strike must go on also tell dat mr president dt who ever make a peaceful resolution impossible will make violent revolution possible so jonatan should be very carefull

  13. This is no subsidy removal on PMS. This is an overt attempt by Jonathan and Sanusi(SLS) to recover the N1.3trillion naira Sanusi printed in the so called bail-out of failed banks after which no foreign investors were interested in the so-called failed banks. Nigerians shine your eyes. The House of Representative should re-open the probe of Sanusi for the printed N1.3trillion naira and the mismanagement of the Nigerian economy. Sanusi provided the one-dimensional analysis of Nigeria’s economy to solve a multi-dimensional economic problems. Of course President Jonathan is to be blamed first

  14. I want our president to do something about this fuel subsidy. I want the president to remember his promises he made to Nigerians but we are dacing to another beat is unfair about this matter. The masses are living below dollar, he said there is going to be creation of job opportunity bt NO graduate are driven KEKE NAPEP this is craziness. We need solution. thks

  15. wat’s our country turnin 2? Y can’t gudluck put himself in our shoe atleast he came 4rm a poor background,he shld knw aw difficult it is 2 survive as a poor man. Aw are we 2 survive as a student, dis is not gud luck at all. I support d strike,we voted 4 him n we av d power 2 impeach him. I regret votin 4 him

  16. They told us, that its de cabal(which is stil dem)that benefit frm fuel subsidy,nw(afta subsidy removal) we are stil importin fuel,n that moni 4 subsidy is stil paid to dem,bt this time frm de poor masses pocket.Had it been govt. is truthful they culd hv used de moni saved frm disel subsiby they removed a longtime ago to repair or build one refinnery at least.pls my people dnt be deceived by their useless paliatives n promises.i support the strike n de protests.

  17. aw i wish those of u that is supportin jonathan 2 suffer,2 know aw it feels.just bcos u can avoid the fuel, wat abt those who cant avoid 50 naira 2 eat.so let fear God in our judgement and realis that no condition is permanent

  18. i dnt agree with the removal of subsidy. .if we allow it how are we sure the money is not going to be shared among them selves( the top government official). . Nigerian lowclass citizen is already starving in hunger. . Just few day after the removal. For how long do we continue like this. . There are some other ways to fund for building of refinaries. why through subsidy. .that is a clean way for the recovering of money pourd into politics during election. . strike must go on. .SUBSIDY MUST BE RETURND

  19. emotional reactions are like explosions; they only destroy. Nigerian people, if we react with rioting and fight, we give ourselves to other to be used for their purposes.
Great houses are built with deep thought before any action. We plan, we think, we modify. Blind rage builds nothing.
Let us not strike, it is a blind rage. Let us follow a plan founded on sound economic principles and build a great house; a new nigeria.

  20. Anyone supporting d removal of subsidy is a privileged person.Do u know Venezuela sells petrol at an equivalent of N1.66k?As brilliant as d govt arguement seems, none of them has compared us with any OPEC country. The highest is in Egypt and is equivalent to N46:00k.Why are we paying customs officers salaries if they r failing to do their job.Any sharp practice in the sector can be handled if the government faces its primary responsibility which is the security and welfare of the people.Even if the people are making a wrong choice, that is democracy. It is the will of the people that must come to pass.I thought one head was better than two.How can 1000 blockheads be more intelligent than over a hundred million people?I only pray this regime doesn’t come to an unexpected end.

  21. Dear Mr. President, I don’t agree with you that you are feeling the same pain we are feeling because you don’t buy fuel nor travel with public transport. We had enough promises unfulfill from you and your Governors including minimum wage issue, all of you are just rulers not leaders. Just give us constant power supply and subsidies transport sector and see if Nigerians will question your decision on fuel subsidy removal.

  22. let the subsidy removal begins when 2012 budget starts around April 2012 before then make consultations and finally when the removal comes let it be cushion around #85 or#90 per litre as we begin to see the result gradually then by next two years then you can increase it by then no body will object it. May God bless and keep Nigeria ONE.

  23. The removal of the subsidies is not new in Nigeria more than 2 gov’t try it and fail us.pms price have inceases the price of goods in market.is hard to belief that jona address Nigeria and he is talking only about transport, what about other goods in market.Jona cannot take us to the Promising Land.this is just the beginning of his show.

  24. Over the past 4 years, Nigeria has realized more than 200 billion dollars from the sale of crude oil and taxes, yet nothing has been done with it. How then can a Government so notorious for its wasteful spendings and massive corruption suddenly realize how to properly invest the 7billion dollars to be derived from the subsidy removal?
Please my brothers, don’t be deceived. The President said the money will be used to repair the refineries, construct roads, create jobs and correct every anomaly in d country. Fellow Nigerians, do you honestly believe that?
This is a President who is destined to eat N1billion, who will water the flowers of Aso Rock with N200 million and who will spend N350 million to furnish his wife’s office!!
Let’s not be deceived by the lies of this man.
The removal of subsidy at this time when innocent people are bombed everyday and the country is at the brink of another Civil War clearly shows that our President has greatly misplaced his priorities.

  25. we voted our Reps in to fight 4 us up dere, all dey do is to read dailies n gist while in session. The only way to fight ds subsidy is to turn to dem down in wat ever way dat will lite up dere brain.Modern slavery indirectly by Mr pres, subsidy frm deasel were use to build refin, gud roads, electricity, gud health etc?Ds regim has nothing 4 d citizens dats y he want a six year term.If a goat is chase to d edge of d wall, she’ll av no choice dan to face her owner, dats wat is abat to appen. May GOD help nigerians!!!
    Segun(Ib)

  26. Why does nigeria based all its future on petroleum especialy our govt.if truly dis is to hlp nigerians, why can’t mr president stop all d big amount of mony he’s payin all d house of reps, ministers, senaes nd even mr president himslf.if truly GEJ wnts 2hlp us,he’ll nt be spendin 350million 2change his dining room,990million 2feed vice president nd all sort of millions day’re wasting.at list okonjo iweala has bin workin in d world bank, all d mony she has earnd thr,she shuld a list hlp we d poor.even if mr president has d mind 2do it,i bliv his cabinet’l” nt alow him.but let’s just kip paranug 4ourslf nd nigeria nd especially mr president

  27. Evry one of u have spoken well, but i want all of u to knw dat there’s every tendency that the problem of unemployment can’t be solved by jst removing the subsidy, subsidy removal is a good step to the nation’s economy. Gov’t is talking about repairing the refinaries and other things, why can’t they repair it first b4 removing d subsidy. What happens to the funds that the country has been generating before? The same people swallowing the money before still swallow the subsidy money if removed. The truth is that the gov’t has a hidden agenda, if not why would they remove the subsidy that is supposed to be removed on april on january? If you say it’s for the interest of the masses and 80% of the masses says they don’t want it, why must u insist on it? Infact i least expected the gov’t to do this now when we’are facing a problem of insecurity in the country. Last time he was shading tears on the scene of the bomb blast @ the church and up till now nothing has been dond about it, and more people are still being killed every day by d same people and all we could do is to remove subsidy making it impossible for our brothers in the north to escape because of the high transportation rate. And yet the gov’t cant protect them. This is just PEOPLE DECIEVING PEOPLE!!!

  28. Am in support of oil subsidy removal, but my question to President Jonathan is why must it be the poor that will pay for it,taking such policy at the beginin of the year is not something to be apploded bc a lot of people have spent so much on christmas to bear with this policy,it could have been best around middle of the year, or why cant we use our forgien reserve to build n repair this refinaries instead of taxing the poor. My last question for President Goodluck Jonathan is; when the poor masses your trying to bring the good to dies of hunger and starvation, of what good is that good your bringing to them again. I suggest that all the political office holders salaries starting from the president if he is going to be sincere down to commissioners be cut down by 50%. GOD SAVE NIGERIA.

  29. y wil Gej treat NIGERIANS DIS WAY? IN CASE HE DOESN’NT KNW he’s now been referred 2 as badluck’ he has nt accomplished any agenda 4 crying out loud! Now wat his god damn father is telling him is to remove fuel subsidy and make life miserable 4 d innocent citizens! Ur plan wil not work…..protesters go get ur cardboard and marker! 2mao is d-day…we no go gri o…afteral dangote can help build ffinery 4 us while we pay him instalmentally

  30. I support the idea of fuel subsidy removal, bcos of better future, if truely our govt are really want to fulfill their promises, but to be sincere mr president must fight corruption in this country, so that the project money will not go to heartless people. NLC,TUC,GOVT and the whole nigerian should please try to reason together and allow peace to reign

  31. Govt shuld hv a rethink, govt shuld put evrything in place, build new refineries, good roads, new good affordable health care, improved in de security, free education, creat more more employment, increase de workers salary, let justice reign, e.t.c & after all dis have been done ,Govt can increase fuel.

  32. Mr president, Pls move further and cut the emoluments of politcal office holders in Nigeria by additional 25% bcos it wont affect them. They collectively earn 1.2trn per annum near equivaleomnt to what the masses will pay will despair as Fuel subsidy.

  33. can we (9jrian) trust dis govtment 4 once.i hope dis tink is nt becomig politcal.mr presidnt has cut down d salaries of d executive arm an odas parastatals, also mass transit buses were lunch yestaday in abuja is dat nt sacrifies they are making. I suguest mr Presidnt.if nigerian hav refus, den live d subsidi an stay in ur ofice wen ur time is of u com down afta all odas hav stay like dat an ntig hapen.may God guide u an ur family

  34. Nigerians should better think of coming together to wage a war against Boko Haram which is a devil on its way to divide and shread this experiment called Nigeria. This is a fight we should come together and embark on rather than fuel subsidy removal. Lets support Goodluck Jonathan for he means well for Nigeria and Nigerians. Ifeanyi okagbue

  35. the issue of subsidy moval is a nice idia, but at a very wrong time… why not tackling corruption fist mr jona? the masses has already lost trust in govt becouse of too much outstanding promises that have not been accomplished

  36. I think mr president have good intension for d nation but at wrong time bcos it can’t be now that we face d challenge of insecurity in d nation that u will make such declaration to add more pains to ur people.
Please mr president wake-up & be aware of ur adviser before they mislead you in a wrong direction to govern ur people bcos many of them are after their belly not mind what happen to d poor masses on d street.

  37. The “DEVIL U KNOW IS BETTER THAN THE ANGEL U DON‘T KNOW“. I knew GEJ was a DEVIL in human skin so I avoided him during election. It‘s my calculated opinion that the bastard should be sent to Ibadan Zoo for national orientation.

  38. We are in full support of the removal of fuel subsidy. These people (NLC & House of Reps) are seriously benefitting from the subsidy in some ways, that is why they never supported the removal. We are tired of underdevelopment & unemployment in this country. Our President has done the right thing. GEJ, we are behind you.

  39. My good people, we are all right in our opinion bt a good farmer plants good fruit in order to reap the best during harvest.. What we are facing now is the planting season. This janathan is one man and should not be expected to know everything that is happening in this country within a twickle of an eye hence delegating legislation. When we accuse, blame, insult cause him, let’s also remember his fellowers who are the problem we are facing.
Okonjo’s speech made me to understand that part of the fuel we import are being channel to other means by some people. U don’t expect her to mention names for safety purpose. That means on one side this subsidy is a waste of resource. Removing it is to curtail corruption that we are clamouring for.. Let’s embrace it. And i believe that those opposing it must in one way or the other benefiting from the subsidy. Our legislators, house of reps, nlc etc are benefiting from it hence opposing it. As this issue is going on, do u know how much they’ve receive as bribe to fight against it? Let’s be wise. For some years now our budget has been on deficit and that makes it impossible for the govt to work, lets embrace this change and change our economy. I must say that jonathan is wrong! Fine and good but the did has been done. Let’s wait and reap the fruit of our labour. Remember whether janathan work or not, at d expiration of his tenor he will come done and that will not change the economy. If this subsidy is not removed the economy of this country will collapse this year which is more disastrous. Let’s stop killing ourselves over this issue and face the truth atleast he has started putting some things in place. Let’s watch and see. I LOVE NIGERIA

  40. Pls lets all get things rite here. The strike is not as a result of any ignorance on subsidy removal as insinuated by some, but rather dat modalities needed to be put in place 1st especially on how monies frm d subsidy will be put 2 good use & doesn’t end in d pockets of a few!

  41. NLC Strike 100% supported. I noticed dat dos who r desparatedly in support of GEJ r financially endowed. U guys nid 2 c d peasants suffering, dying, beggin n borrowing n 2 survive. Many I mean at lot of tins nids 2 b fix b4 d implementation of subsidy removal… Striking shld b d sure way 2 convey n elaborate wat nigerians opinion is 2 GEJ n his cabinate members whom r in support him. Yap i agree wif d fact dat GEJ wud nt b affected if subsidy remval is reverse bt bliv me d spirits of dos who died as d result of dis pain he inflicted on Nigerians will sure hunt him dwn if he fail acknowledgin d plight of Nigerians. Dis great idea of his ‘subsidy rmval’ can resurface afta he must v fix n put 2 function wat he intended 2 do wif d funds he planed 2 derive 4rm de removal of subsidy, u can borrow funds n put 2 oda tins b4 ur subsidy ideal wud b duely welcumed. Mr president I seek ur rethink.

  42. Nigerians love a good future, but when subsidy was removed on deisel years ago, the senate president then occupies a key post today, the minister for finance has not changed, the political party has not changed, how do you expect Nigerians to believe that the results will change?
what have they sacrificed for the nation as Leaders. my next paragraph is an analysis I’m copying from facebook. when you finish reading this, make your decisions wisely.
AN EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS OF THE SALARY OF MAJOR POLITICAL OFFICE HOLDERS. PLEASE rebroadcast on your wall:-1. President Barack Obama (USA)- $400,000.002. Prime Minister Davaid Cameron (UK) – $222,000.003. President Nicolas Sarkozy (France) – $302,000.004. Chancellor Angela Merkel (Germany) – $296,000.005. President Hu Jin…tao (China)- $11,000.00. Now Contrast the above with the yearly salaries of Nigerian. Federal Lawmakers1. Senator (Nigeria) – $ 1,100,000.00 (x 109)2. Member, House of Representative (Nigeria) – $834,402.00 (x360). A SNEAK PREVIEW OF OUR PRESIDENT AND VP’s proposed expenditure for 2012:-* If u buy 40 newspapers/day for 366 days @ N350, u’ll spend N5.12m.. Our VP’s Newspapers budget in 2012 is N45.08m!** Jonathan’s feeding allowance is N1 billion naira for this year… At an exchange rate of N159 to $1, N1b equals $6.3million dollars this equates to about $17,231 that is N2,739726 per day on food President Obama will not spend this!!! At N70,000 a month the money spent on feeding by the President will pay the salaries of 1200 Nigerians for a year!!! The Federal Government earmarked a curious N16.64million as rent payable on the official residence of Vice President Namadi Sambo, although the president and his deputy are not known to pay rents for their official residences. The presidency would spend another N230.133million on the acquisition, upgrading and furnishing of the VP’s official guest house.Over N1.06billion comprising N500million for the construction and furnishing of the extension of the same VP lounge, and another N560million for the construction of official quarters for the VP’s director of protocols.N116.733million is provided for the installation of universal power system (UPS) facilities at the VP’s residence, while about N108million is to be spent on communication equipments at the VP’s guest house and the presidential villa. Other expenses include N20.80million for plant/generator fuel cost, and N10.40million for maintenance of plants/generators, as against N54.33million and N15.216million respectively by the president. Also, the Presidency is to spend about N203.88million for the construction/provision of electricity at the villa this year, in addition to about N85.21million electricity charges and another N168.72million provided in the budget for fuel and general lubricants. Honorarium and sitting allowance, N173.75million; publicity and advertisements, N77.56million; medical expenses, N84.3million; postages and courier services, N14.06million as well as welfare packages, N285.14million.The provision for general utilities include N56.48million for telephone charges; N42.94million for water rates and N80.8million for leased communication lines(s) Who is decieving who? What are these people contributing to the growth and development of the Nigerian economy to deserve such hefty salaries? Just this week, there was massive pay cut (up to 52%) for politicians in Singapore. On which planet is Nigeria? One of the very few underdeveloped countries that can afford such blatant waste of our very limited resources… Enough is Enough of this LOOTING OF OUR TREASURY. Nigeria is ranked as one of the countries whose citizens have a high tolerance level but this oppression has gone on for too long. Its time to stand up for our rights!!!!! #OCCUPY NIGERIA!!! Nigerians must know about this please forward this, post in on your wall etc…. God bless Nigeria!!
