Court issues arrest warrant on suspected killers of Funsho Williams

JUSTICE Ebenezer Adebajo of the Lagos High Court yesterday issued a bench warrant on four alleged suspects in the 2006 murder of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Lagos, Funsho Williams.

Nine defendants had been charged for allegedly conspiring to kill Williams but only five were present in court. Therefore, all of them had not been arraigned before the court.

The trial judge issued a bench warrant on the remaining four who failed to appear in court.

The nine defendants are Abubakar Kalamu, Bulama Kolo, Garba Abubakar, Musa Maini, David Cassidy, Felix John, Tunami Sonani, Mustapha Kayode and Okpomwasi Imariabie.

The said bench warrant was issued on Kalamu, Abubakar, Cassidy and John.

Sonani, Kayode and Imariabei had been granted bail in other courts but Kolo and Maini were produced in court from prison custody.

According to the charge sheet which was signed by Olabisi Ogungbesan of the office of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the defendants were alleged to have conspired and committed the crime on July 22, 2006 at 34A Corporation Drive, Dolphin Estate, Lagos State.

They were charged on a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.

The said offence is said to be contrary to Sections 316 and 324 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C17 Volume 2 Laws of Lagos State, 2003.

Further hearing in the matter has been fixed for July 11, 2012.
