Early hours on Tuesday, Esther Peters was alleged to have set Anayo Kenneth, her husband ablaze at Ijegemo village, Isheri Osun, Lagos. She was consequently arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for the crime.
After the deadly act, Esther was trying to escape when men from Isheri Police Station intercepted her after having a distress call and promptly arrested her.
Neighbours said that Esther was regularly having fights with her late husband even though she denied being responsible for the crime.
Mr. Damasus Ozoani of Lagos State Deputy Police spokesman said that Kenneth’s body has been deposited in a mortuary pending investigation. He also confirmed the Isheri Police Stattion wading into the place of the crime in time to catch Esther and also saw the body burnt to death.
According to Ozoani, Esther alleged that it was the candle they left at home that killed Kenneth while neighbours insisted that she had a brawl with her husband the previous day before the incident.
As investigation continues on the case, Ozoani said that the woman has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba.
