The proposed National Dialogue announced by President Goodluck Jonathan during his nationwide broadcast on October 1, in commemoration of Nigeria’s 53rd Independence Day Anniversary, has been opposed by the North East Youth Vanguard, NEYV.

The group claimed that the National Dialogue was a cover by the Jonathan administration to divert attention from government’s lapses and failure to address the numerous challenges bedeviling the nation.

Speaking on Thursday in Bauchi, the NEYV national president, Comrade Aliyu Ladan, instead called on President Jonathan to focus on the problems of insecurity, corruption and poverty in the land and stop further waste of the nation’s resources and time on a conference that may not achieve much.

“It is a known fact to everybody that, this issue of national conference has been introduced by President Jonathan simply because he wants to divert the attention of Nigerians from the actual things on ground,” Ladan said.

“He knows that Nigerians do not like his policies, and consider him a total failure. So instead of him to just admit his mistakes, he wants to introduce something that can never address our problems.”

Ladan also lampooned the late General Sani Abacha’s former Chief Security Officer, CSO, Major Hamza Al-mustapha for making himself a willing tool in the hands of Mr. Jonathan through his recent purported unity tour of the country.

According to the NEYV president, “His tour can neither unite the nation nor compel people to vote for the president come 2015”.
