Power Supply Falls By 22%, Minister Blames Vandals

Power supply across Nigeria has dropped by 22 per cent, the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, has said.

nebo-360x225He said the drop was due to the activities perpetuated by vandals of power infrastructure.

Nebo, in a statement by the Federal Ministry of Power, stated that the Western electricity trunk line from Warri through Escravos was found to have been damaged at many points than it was initially imagined.

“Another one at the Eastern axis at Boko loma was punctured at many points and it would take the next one month to fix,” he said.

He said the vandals had injured the nation’s economy, adding that they should not be spared.

He called for the enactment of stiffer penalties as this would serve as deterrence to vandals.

The Chairman, House Committee on Power, Mr. Patrick Ikahriale, according to the statement, said members of his committee as well most Nigerians, were concerned about the low power generation recently experienced nationwide.
