Amaechi Not Planning PDP Return – APC

amaechiThe All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State has denied claims by the supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, that Governor Rotimi Amaechi is staging a comeback through the back door to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The party also denied being afraid of the PDP in next year’s governorship polls in the state.

Amaechi dumped the PDP on whose platform he became governor for the APC last November, alongside four of his colleagues.

Wike had while speaking at the ceremony to mark the first anniversary of the Felix Obuah-led Rivers PDP, claimed that Amaechi and his supporters were making frantic efforts to return to the party.

“The Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and his supporters are jittery and afraid and the governor and his supporters are making efforts to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the All Progressives Congress”, the minister was quoted to have said.

But a statement from the office of its chairman in Rivers State, Davies Ikanya, on Tuesday, the APC said it wondered what would make the governor and his supporters to be jittery of the PDP, which was not only in disarray, but also cursed.

“This, to say the least, is a lie from the pit of hell. It is really unfortunate that a man holding a high office as a Federal Minister could lie so brazenly and without compunction in his desperation to raise the morale of his fast depleting followers in the Rivers PDP”, the statement signed by Mr. Ikanya’s media aide, Chukwuemeka Eze, said.

“If we may ask, what will make Governor Amaechi and APC in Rivers State to be jittery and afraid; afraid of PDP that is in disarray and cursed with a rudderless leadership without any sound vision; afraid of a party whose founding fathers are leaving in droves and a party that has virtually ceased to function in Rivers State?

“This is nothing but the ranting of a drowning man. We would ordinarily not have bothered to respond to Wike if not for the need to put the records straight”.

The ruling APC said it was ridiculous for the minister to claim that Amaechi and the party leaders were planning to rejoin the PDP through the backdoor, saying “What he does not understand is that Gov. Amaechi has left PDP for good, without any intention of returning to the
sinking ship which PDP has become as of today”.

The party then asked Wike to continue with his vision and mission, “which is to run down Nigeria’s educational system”.

“It has gone on record that he supervised and ensured that Federal Polytechnics and Colleges of Education are permanently closed pending when he leaves office as the Supervising Minister of Education.

“His plot to render our University system comatose failed after he ensured that the Universities were closed for six months. The people of Rivers State are wise enough not to allow such a failed politician and administrator to govern the State even for one second to avoid him destroying all the enviable legacies of Governor Amaechi”.

APC declared that it was proud of Gov. Amaechi’s feats saying he has become “a political institution whose sandals Wike is unfit to untie”.
