Crime Rate In Amuwo Odofin Alarming – Council Chairman

Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos, Mr. Ayodele Adewale, Thursday raised the alarm that the local government had become a haven for robbers.

He spoke while debunking claims by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP, Umar Manko that the fake military officers paraded recently were working for Amuwo Odofin Local Government.

Adewale lamented the increasing spate of armed robbery attacks on residents in the area, saying Governor Babatunde Fashola’s in-law was recently attacked at her Festac residence, while Mr. Akorede Oyedele was shot on his way from mosque at Mile 2 Estate.

“Mr. Oyoma Edewor was killed by a police officer attached to the Area E Command, while Chief Vincent Obianodo, CEO, Young Shall Grow Motors, lost his driver and orderly in an attack in Festac Town,” he added.

He wondered why the Police had not found a lasting solution to the crime wave in the area, “which has led to residents now living in fear and some moving out of the area.”

The Chairman noted that the local government did not habour fake military officers and would never have cause to do so.

“It is on record that we have a cordial working relationship with the armed forces including NSCDC, the Nigerian Army, Navy, Police, Department of State Services, DSS, and other security apparatus, as well as paramilitary personnel such as the Man O’ War, the WAI brigade, the Red Cross, among others,” he explained.

He claimed the Police Commissioner did not only misinform unsuspecting public, “but also portrays traces of campaign of calumny by some mercenary and bad blood on the good image of this present administration in Amuwo Odofin.”
