Ekiti Poll An Indication Nigeria Has Capacity To Conduct Free And Fair Elections – Gov. Ahmed

gov_abdulfatah ahmedGovernor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has described the outcome of last Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State won by Mr Peter Ayodele Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as a positive development and an indication that democracy is on course in the country.

Ahmed, who made this known in a congratulatory message to the governor-elect of Ekiti State, Mr Fayose, noted that the fact that the election went peacefully and an incumbent was defeated, showed that Nigerians cherish democracy, especially when the atmosphere is conducive.

The governor advised the political class to imbibe an enduring lesson of the Ekiti political experiment that elections can be conducted devoid of hooliganism and lack of respect for the sanctity of life.

He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the police and other security agencies for ensuring that the election was peaceful and largely free and fair.

According to the governor, the Ekiti poll is an indication that Nigeria has capacity to conduct free and fair elections if the political class displays a positive disposition to such.

Ahmed also commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Governor Kayode Fayemi, for his gallantry in defeat and political maturity in accepting the wish of Ekiti people.
