FG’s Reaction To Death Of Alamieyeseigha Son Smacks Of Double Standards – Keyamo

Radical lawyer and rights activist, Festus Keyamo Esq, has accused the Federal Government of bias in its response to the death of Oyamuyefa, son of former Bayelsa State Governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, in Dubai, United Arab Emirate.

In a statement Wednesday, Mr. Keyamo said the swiftness with which the government intervened to resolve the issues surrounding the death of Oyamuyefa, smacks of double standards following the government’s lukewarm intervention in the alleged murder of the son of ace sports broadcaster, Aisha Falode, in the same city.

Oyamuyefa, a student schooling in Dubai, reportedly died in unclear circumstances with some reports saying he might have committed suicide. His family thinks he was murdered and intends to seek justice.

In a statement condoling the former governor and his family, President Goodluck Jonathan said the Federal Government would assist the Alamieyeseigha family to get to the root of their son’s death.

“President Jonathan assures Chief Alamieyeseigha and his family of the full support of the Federal Government as they strive to unravel the true circumstances of the young man’s death”, a statement by presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati read.

While commiserating with the Alamieyeseigha family for what he described as a “particularly painful” loss, Mr. Keyamo berated the federal government for showing no interest in the call by Ms. Falode whose son, Toba, was allegedly pushed to his death from a high-rise apartment block in Dubai on February 15.

“Whilst this action of the Federal Government is commendable, it smacks of double standards. Recall that on 15th of February, 2014, Toba (Tyler) Falode was also murdered in hazy circumstances in Dubai. Recall also that the mother, Aisha Falode took it upon herself to carry out some discreet investigation into those circumstances and has since been crying out for justice for her son”, Mr Keyamo said.

“Up till this minute, the Federal Government has not issued a single statement calling on the U.A.E authorities to fish out the killers of Toba Falode. The Federal Government has played the ostrich in the case of Toba, leaving the mother and family grieving alone. The question is, with the swift response in the case of Oyamuyefa Alamieyeseigha, does the Federal Government value the lives of some of its citizens more than others?”

The Lagos-based lawyer noted that unlike the swift response of the government in the death of Oyamuyefa, the nonchalant response of the government in the death of Nigerians abroad has emboldened foreigners to target Nigerians without consequences.

“If the Federal Government has shown more interest in the case of Toba, perhaps the precious life of Mr. Oyamuyefa Alamieyeseigha would have been saved”, the lawyer said.

Keyamo recalled that despite sending written statement from witnesses, who confirmed that Toba’s alleged murderer confessed to the crime to the Dubai authorities eight months ago, nothing has been done.

“We hope this is a bitter lesson to the Federal Government and we hereby re-iterate our call on the Federal Government to show more interest in the quest to find the killers of Toba Falode and bring them to justice”, he said.
