Five Players To Watch In Arsenal vs Manchester United Clash

When Arsenal and United play, it’s always a game that shows the best of two successful football clubs.

Though recently, they are a stark contrast to their efficacious nature. Arsenal recently ended a prolonged nine years trophy drought, while United are left to rue the impromptu departure of the great Sir Alex Ferguson. The absence of the Scot at the helm has left a dilapidated team. If last season’s misdemeanor was the dire need of a more experienced Manager, Louis van Gaal, a learned football coach, has struggled himself to stable the troops.

On Saturday, both sides take center stage at the Emirates. Femi looks at five players to watch ahead of the encounter.

Alexis Sanchez– If you need a player that is prepared to carry the burden of a team all by himself, Alexis Sanchez fits the bill. The Gunners look a different team with the Chilean. The previous season witnessed Arsene Wenger’s surprising interest in the services of Luis Suarez. However, he failed to land the Uruguayan and was infamously mocked by Liverpool’s owner John W Henry. Yet, Arsenal are lucky with the capture of Sanchez.

A player in the same category as Suarez, the former Barcelona hitman has been a sensation since his arrival. Immense Strength, Burgeoning runs: sometimes overly ambitious, are some of his qualities that has made him a standout to his other team mates. It would be no surprises if he ends up on the scores sheet against a familiar foe.

Angel Di Maria– Defensively, Arsenal are susceptible to pressure. The chief man that would be eager to exploit that frugality is Manchester United’s recent acquisition from Madrid. A player that is fully aware of the demands of a big game, Di Maria is a force to reckon with during the weekend.

Robin Vanpersie– A precedent dip in form has seen the Dutch man become a frustrated figure. His arrival at Old Trafford saw a 31-year old, eager to work with former manager Alex Ferguson. But the Scot’s departure seemed to have affected van Persie progression from that maiden season player where he singlehandedly guided the club to a 20th English Premier League. He returns to his parent club during the weekend amid the imminent harsh reception from the home fans. But even the Arsenal faithful know it would play a little part, especially if the striker is in his game mood.

Danny Welbeck– Left Manchester United for greener pastures, reaping the reward at his new club. Welbeck was sold for bizarre circumstances but the England international is proving to be worth every penny Arsenal splashed for his services on transfer deadline day. Players are always eager to impress against their former employees so expect Welbeck’s impressive start at Arsenal to continue.

Radamel Falcao– In contention to start according to media reports, Falcao’s presence is no doubt an advantage for the visitors. Though we are yet to see his scintillating nature due to recurring injuries, when at his best, he is a man on his own. Creative, eye for goal, he is the epitome of a complete striker.
