Why We Shifted Date For 2015 Batch ‘A’ Corps Members – NYSC

nysc-members2-638x300The National Youth Service Corps on Monday said corps members would be mobilised in only two batches in 2015 – Batches ‘A’ and ‘B’.

The corps, however, shifted the date of mobilisation for Batch A from Tuesday, May 5, to Tuesday, May 26, 2015.

The Director of Press and Public Relations in NYSC, Mrs. Bose Aderibigbe, made the clarification following a press statement on Monday in which she said the decision to mobilise only two batches was “due to some operational exigencies”.

The earlier statement sent out by NYSC read, in part: “The management of the NYSC wishes to inform the general public, especially prospective corps members, that due to some operational exigencies, corps members will be mobilised in only two batches this year: 2015 Batch ‘A’ and 2015 Batch ‘B’”.

However, in her clarification, Aderibigbe said, “Part of the reasons is because of the forthcoming general elections. You know our corps members are participating in the elections. February 21 is when elections will be rounding off and Batch A that is supposed to pass out, will still be in service to continue with the elections”.

The NYSC spokesperson also denied that the action was due to fears that there could be a repeat of the 2011 post-election violence.

She said, “No, which post-election violence? It is not because of that; we have three batches already in service and they are all participating in the elections. It is not because of fear of post-election violence”.
