A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Prince Paul Ikonne has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the infrastructural dilapidation of Aba, the commercial hub of the southeast.

Ikonne was keen on the rebuilding of Ariaria International Market which he said attracts traders from all over the world.

“We want the federal government to pay attention to Aba,” he told journalists in Abuja, noting that the city’s problems were beyond the state goverrnment. He added: “That is the desire of every single person. When you get Aba right, you have gotten Abia right, you have gotten the South-East right.

“There is no family or tribe in Nigeria that does not do business in Aba. There is no country that does not have their business in Aba. People move products from Aba to Cameroon, Cotonou, Lome and Abidjan. So, if you get Aba right, you have gotten the South-East right.

“We are not talking about fixing any how market; we are talking about an international market. We are talking about a market that produces markets and without this market, slot of these markets you are talking about will not exist. The level of infrastructural decay I can see and what is on ground right now is beyond the state government. The level of decay needs a federal intervention right now in Abia state,” he said.

Ikonne was the 2011 governorship candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN in the state.
