Three men who claim to be pastors have been brought before the Igbosere Magistrate Court, sitting in Lagos, yesterday over allegedly collecting N26,000 from a woman on the false pretext of performing miracles for her.

The accused persons, Ekpo Michael, 55, Charles Michael, 54 and Napoleon Ohaegbu, 52, are facing trial three-count charges of conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Kingsley Jackson, told the court that the accused conspired and committed the offences on July 19, at about 2p.m., at Ikate in Lekki Phase 1, at Eti-Osa, Lagos.

Sergeant Jackson accused the suspects of presenting themselves to one Chioma Okorie as pastors of the Redeemed Christian Church of God pastors.

He also accused the suspects of falsely telling the victim (Okorie) that there was a cowry in her womb, saying, “The accused brought out an egg and performed a magic, broke the egg, and a cowry appeared.

“The accused, however, collected N26,000 from her.”

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 409, 312 (1) and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The suspects in their defence, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The magistrate, Mr. P. A. Adekomaya granted them N50,000 bail each, with one surety each in like sum and adjourned till August 8.
