Why We stopped PDP Convention- Police

Police defend sealing PDP convention in Port Harcourt

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP  had on August 16th alleged that the Inspector General of Police had plans to scuttle their national convention slated for August 17, 2016.

It seems the party’s speculation was in order as the police did seal off the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convention in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital but their reason was different. According to Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Police, Donald Amunah, the police had to seal off the venue
because they got conflicting orders and as a neutral body they had to take charge.

“The situation is that we have conflicting orders, the IG has been served a court order in Abuja, so we have to obey the court order.

“If this court order has to be obeyed, what do we do about the venue? We take control of the venue to avoid two worrying parties conflicting, to protect lives and properties in the state.”

PDP took to its official Twitter page a few hours ago saying that security agents used an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) to smash into Gov Nyesom Wike’s convoy but the police is yet to confirm or deny the allegations.
