Al-Mustapha Found Guilty, Sentenced To Die By Hanging Over Kudirat Abiola’s Death

A Lagos High Court today found Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State General Sani Abacha and Lateef Shofolahan guilty of the murder of Kudirat Abiola.
They have been sentenced to die by hanging.
The case is the longest criminal trial in Nigeria’s history, lasting more than 12 years.
Kudirat Abiola was shot dead on June 4, 1996 while she was driving along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway.
The prosecution accused Al-Mustapha of oredering Sergeant Barnabas Jabila (Sgt. Rogers), who was then a member of both the Strike Force and Body Guards military units, to kill Kudirat Abiola.
