Rochas Okorocha Declares Free Education In Imo State

Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, on Tuesday declared that no student or pupil of Imo State origin studying in any institution owned by the state would pay fees.

He also announced scholarships for all students and pupils of Imo State origin from primary to tertiary level.

Addressing a huge crowd at the Imo Freedom Square in Owerri, the governor promised to pay a scholarship of N100,000 to each student of Imo origin in Imo State University.

Each recipient would get N70,000 free and N30,000 as a loan to be paid upon completion of studies.

He said no collateral would be attached to the loan.

For those at OND level in the state polytechnics, they will get N60,000, broken down into N40,000 free and N20,000 loan. Those at HND level will get N80,000, broken down into N60,000 free and N20,000 loan.

The sum will be paid from the next academic session.

  3. Chief, Owele Rochas Okorocha. Shuld be emulated by all other non-performing governors. A man to given up his security votes as a governor 4 the development of the state is not a joke. This over #4b within the 100 days saved by this man unaccounted for, really tells us wat happens in the govt. 4*3 and half will give u over #14b in a year *4 which is #56b in 4yrs *2 which is #112b for 8yrs. All this funds mentioned is unaccounted for. Wat a pity in a country where some people live below #20 everyday.

Our Governor, i wish to notify you that we have a great number of graduates of Imo state origin in the labour market so please as you continue to break grounds in Imo with your decisions and policies; great jobs for the people especially the YOUTHS because that’s the major problem of Imolites scattered all over the country. You should always think about the continuity of programmes before putting them in place because it will all be ‘arant nonsense’ if all the programmes will be abandoned after your stay in the government house as the Governor. Thanks and God bless u for your job well-doing and for opening the eyes of Imolites and Nigerians on what can really be done with states’ allocation if used properly and judiciously. We want ‘MORE’.

Really lmo state has never tasted good governance since after the Chief Samuel Onunaka Mbakwe of the blessed memory administration.Thank God for the replacement with the Owelle who we are proud of.l thank the peoples governor for the scholarship to lmolites in all institutions of all level in lmo state.
    Having done this your Excellency Sir,please extend this your Godly hands to sons and daughters who are studying in the Universities outside including international students of lmo state origin because they are suffering so much,especially in The Gambia.God bless you as you have progress of lmo state at heart and we in the Diaspora will continue to pray for you. Pls your excellency don’t let any situation deterr your good intentions because even opposers of goodness will still rise against you as do most of us that acknowledge your good works. Those that prefer darkness to light.

  13. Am down with shock when I heard your broadcast on Education. I have continually asked this question: Does Imo have such money for such policy? The answer has been that our problem is not the money but how to manage it. May God give you the enabling grace to carry out all your policies in all the sectors in Jesus name, Amen. But needs to be done about the consolidation of project so that someone will not tamper with this in the future. Again everyone knows that its impossible for all the imolites to be studying in imo state university at least at the moment. So please may others in other schools outside the state be accomodated as well so that your milk of human kindness will be enjoyed by all imolites. Again the graduates need job. Consider that. Finally may all the south east governors emulate this good policy and be sensitive to the plight of ndi igbo in other states most especially the north and make our home dwellable and enjoyable by coming such good policies as owelle Rochas has done. Owelle no fit do pass mi own governor Elechi of Ebonyi state he awarded 26 unity bridges were by 7 has been completed already every community in my state recieved one one coater tias and others thigs dat cannot be mentioned so mi own governor is also a strong man even self Ebonyi is de only state in south East dat hv been exprience free education since 1999 to date so all this free education stuff for Imo no be new thing to some state like Ebonyi, bt anyway owelle u better pass ohakim keep it on we love u frm nnaemeka agwu Ebonyi.

  23. As much as we’re quick to shower praise on Gov Rochas, we must see the trace of a ‘trait’ in our Nation that’s part of what’s led us this far. Our economy has always been tilted towards distribution & consumption leaving out the vital link of ‘production'(which is the key to growth). We all know our problem as a Nation ain’t money,but its right investment( or how to spend it, according to a former Head of State). Business vistas should be opened to create jobs in the medium and long-term which will in turn ensure continuous availability of funds. The question is, When Gov Rochas leaves office after 4 or 8 years, will these largesse continue? Let’s all have a re-think.

DURING HIS POLITICAL CAMPAIGN, HE PROMISED FREE EDUCATION UP TO SECONDARY LEVEL BUT NOW HAVE GONE THE EXTRA MILE AND HAVE PROVED TO MANY DOUBTING MINDS THAT HIS PROMISES WERE NOT MERE POLITICAL PROPAGANDA. INDEED WHEN A RIGHTEOUS MAN IS IN POWER, THE PEOPLE REJOICES AND WHEN THE WICKED PERISH, THERE ARE SHOUTS OF JOY. OWELLE HAS WRITTEN HIS NAME IN GOLD AS FAR AS IMO STATE IS CONCERNED.
    YOUR EXCELLENCY, PLEASE EXTEND YOUR GOOD PLANS AND WATCHFUL EYES TO IMO STATE UNIVERSITY ADMISSION PROCESS. LET THERE BE JUSTICE, EQUITY AND FAIR PLAY IN OFFERING ADMISSIONS. IMSU IS THE ONLY UNIVERSITY WE CAN CALL OUR OWN IN IMO STATE, LET THERE BE SPECIAL CONSIDERATION FOR IMO INDIGENES AS IN OTHER STATES OTHERWISE, IMO STATE WILL CONTINUE TO BE THE STATE WITH THE HIGHEST JAMB CANDIDATES THROUGHOUT THE FEDERATION YEAR AFTER YEAR NOT BECAUSE THERE JAMB OR POST JAMB RESULTS ARE POOR BUT BECAUSE THEIR OWN STATE IS NOT READY TO ADMIT THEM. WHICH STATE DO WE EXPECT TO TAKE THEM WHEN WE SCARE THEM AWAY FROM THEIR HOME STATE? IS IT NOT SAID THAT “CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME”? PLEASE MY GOOD PEOPLE OF IMO STATE, THE EARLIER WE WAKE UP THE BETTER FOR US.
    A MILLION WELL DONE TO OUR FOCUSED AND WONDERFUL GOVERNOR. IMO STATE TO GREATER HEIGHTS…. IMO MUST BE BETTER !!!!!!!!!!!!!
