As the battle for the soul of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, rages between the governors elected on the party’s platform on one hand and the national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and president Goodluck Jonathan on the other hand, the embattled chairman, yesterday, described the reinstatement of the sacked Adamawa State Executives of the party by the National Working Committee, NWC, as a betrayal of trust. It was initially believed that Tukur, who is from Adamawa state and is rumored to be preparing the grounds for one of his son’s gubernatorial ambition, dissolved the Adamawa PDP Exco and appointed a caretaker committee loyal to him but new evidence suggests that it was actually the NWC members, who initiated the move that led to the sack of the officials.

It would be recalled that on Tuesday, 10 members of the NWC, led by Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Sam Jaja and National Secretary, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, met behind Tukur and rescinded the party’s earlier decision sacking the Adamawa PDP exco and replacing them with a caretaker committee.

In his reaction on Wednesday, Tukur said: “I have nothing to say over what the NWC did yesterday but the fact remains that their action is nothing but a betrayal of trust. There are documents relating to the Adamawa congresses and they speak for themselves”.
