President, Goodluck Jonathan has slammed some Borno Elders over their request that operatives of the Joint Task Force (JTF) be removed from the troubled northern state.

The president noted that the elders would be held responsible if troops are withdrawn and anarchy sets in. Defending the activities of the members of the JTF, the president said: “Let me be very frank, because the analogy that when one soldier is killed, a score of people would be killed by soldiers are not correct because we have always admonished that and we have always told the soldiers to conduct themselves within their professional ethics.

“And let me assure you that government would not sit down quietly for anybody to take weapon and start killing people in the name of insurgence. I don’t want to hear that one soldier is killed anywhere either in the Niger Delta or in Borno state or any part of this country, I will not preside over this country as President and allow that to happened or I will not take it lightly with anyone.

“These soldiers leave their families and sleep in the bush and on the streets just so that you and I could have some sleep; and I would not want to hear that one of them is killed. I have given directive to that effect. We have warned the soldiers to conduct themselves, not to kill innocent civilians; but I will not celebrate the death of one soldier, and I repeat, I will not celebrate the death of one soldier.” Jonathan had asserted.

  1. It seems Mr. President is waking up as he finally realises that emotion must not govern whoever wants to rule Nigeria successfully . Rather, reason must be allowed to take the leading seat , no matter the pervasive circumstances calling for undue fear and procrastination. Yes, What President Jonathan is doing now is good but would be better if he resign immediately after the tour. Of course, he lacks most of the qualities to lead a country like Nigeria. No bias !

  2. Rational Babalola or whatever you call yourself,it appears you talk before you think, what is your rationale for calling for Jonathan resignation? I vehemently believe you have never held any leadership position in your life time that was why you made such an unwitty remark.Leadership is not easy bro,try one out by leading your street boys for example.

  3. A leader of mutiny is a leader . A leader of armed robbers is a leader . A leader of a country that is in a moribund state is also a leader . What would you have me say ? I am being objective !

  4. Is it possible that since this insurgency started no innocent civilian has been killed by mistake by the JTF? Are they perfect? Is it wrong to admit(JTF) that a civilian was accidentally killed in the line of fire? In newspapers when it is reported that the JTF has killed boko haram insurgents there is no denial, but when it is reported that JTF has killed innocent civilian immediately there will be a denial. Why?
