ACF Begs CAN To Reconsider Tough Stand On Boko Haram Amnesty

BH - CopyThe Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) yesterday appealed to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to reconsider its stand on the Federal Government’s proposed amnesty plan for members of the Islamist sect, Boko Haram.

The ACF urged the CAN to remember the lessons of the biblical beatitude which says, “We should love those who persecute us, because even sinners love those who love them; and that blessed are the peace makers.”

ACF spokesman Mr. Anthony Sani, who made the forum’s position known yesterday in Kaduna, defended his stand by saying that “God sent his only begotten son (Jesus Christ) to die for us out of grace.”

“I believe the overriding consideration and pre-occupation should be how to stop further killings. As to those who rejected to serve in the amnesty committee, I wish to say while one expected the announcement should have been the outcome of consultations with the individuals concerned due to the nature of the job that requires high patriotic courage, I plead with such members to reconsider their rejection to serve in the committee in the overriding national interest,” he said.
