Three days after a 51- year wait for promotion to the top- flight, Cardiff will go into the Premier League as Championship winners. The Bluebirds clinched the second tier title with a 1- 1 draw at Burnley on Saturday.
Thanks to a Craig Conway fine finish in the 27th minute at Turf Moor, Cardiff emerged as the top dogs in the Coca-Cola championship. Burnley’s equaliser in the second half of stoppage time, when David Edgar headed past David Marshal from close- range, denied Cardiff their 11th away win of the season.
Malky Mackay’s side had already earned promotion to the top- flight after their midweek draw with Charlton Athletic and now they are guaranteed to finish the season in first place as well. A point away to Burnley was enough to seal the trophy after Hull City- the second placed team of the Championship- drew goalless at home against Bristol City earlier on Saturday.
Hull will be promoted along with Cardiff if third placed Watford lose to Blackburn at Vicarage Road later on Saturday.
