FG Worried Over Indiscriminate Drilling Of Boreholes

borehole_CNV00040The indiscriminate drilling of boreholes in the country has been decried by the Federal Government because of its impact on the environment.

This indication was given by Minister of Water Resources, Mrs Sarah Ochekpe on Thursday while fielding questions from newsmen, shortly after she presented the score cards of her ministry to the members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the ongoing ministerial briefing with the leadership of the party.

According to her, “the ministry is worried about the indiscriminate sinking of boreholes in the country, because of its environmental impact. We have started some interactions with the BoreHole Drilling Association on this development. We are also awaiting the assent to the Act establishing the Integrated Water Resources Management Commission.”

The Act, when put in place, she said would enable the commission to excise its regulatory authority over the management of water resources generally and apply sanctions where necessary.

Earlier, the national chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, had said the leadership of the party resolved to interface with the ministers, to ensure that the PDP-led Federal Government delivered dividends of democracy to the people as promised.
