Some members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the aegis of Katsina Democrats Forum yesterday said they congratulated Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State on his emergence as chairman of Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) because true democracy was demonstrated during the poll.
One of the members – Alhaji Usman Abba Jaye, former chairman of Dutsin-ma local government area said, “The governors have demonstrated a true practice of democracy and they have shown that Nigeria like any other country in the world is capable of practicing true democracy.”
“Though many people have viewed our advertorial from different perspectives, but I can confidently tell you without any fear of contradiction that our congratulatory advert was aimed to congratulate democracy not Governor Amaechi in person,” he said.
He said the House of Representatives had earlier applied a similar method when they shunned the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan’s candidate, Hon. Mulikat Akande and instead elected Aminu Tambuwal as Speaker.
Another PDP card carrying member in Katsina State and also member of the Forum, Alhaji Abdulkadir Nasir, said they congratulated Amaechi because he was elected under a true democratic system.
“We want to discourage god-fatherism and imposition in our politics. With the kind of our advertorial it means we are enlightening the public that yes, we can also practice true democracy in the country,” he said.
These are paid disgruntled politicians.
