The national convener of the Concerned Northern Professionals, Dr. Junaid Muhammed, has been advised to proffer curative solutions to the devastating activities of Boko Haram in the North rather than making derogatory remarks against the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.
A group known as League of Rivers Lawyers, Thursday made the call in reaction to a media report which alleged that Junaid made some derogatory remarks about Mrs. Jonathan over the lingering political crisis in Rivers State.
A statement signed by the chairman of the group, Mr. Timi Briggs, said: “The League took exception to the use of foul language to describe Nigeria’s First Lady and wondered why an educated, responsible and “an all knowing man” like Junaid is now the one acting most irresponsibly like a stark illiterate.
“Rather than dissipating energy and time talking about Rivers State politics, when his region is on fire and its economy broken by the activities of Boko Haram sect, Junaid has remained dumb and helpless. By calling Jonathan names, Junaid is behaving like a gangster by saying that Mrs Jonathan has no right to comment over the affairs of her state,” the group stated.
While urging the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) to call Junaid to order because his recent actions may impact negatively on the already heated polity, Briggs said: “If Junaid is looking for what to talk or work to do, the collapse of the Northern economy, rising unemployment, illiteracy and alarming insecurity under his nose are enough engagement rather than abusing Mrs Jonathan.”
According to him, “what is his interest in Rivers State? Why is he crying more than the bereaved? A character like Junaid thinks he has a monopoly of odious language and rascality because he is one of those deceiving Governor Rotimi Amaechi to be spending public funds to betray his brother and pursue a Northern agenda.”
The League said “The First Lady has not done anything in Rivers State that will warrant her to be insulted by Junaid and his ilk. In fact, all her activities during her recent visit to her state were merely reconciliatory and aimed at increasing collaboration among the political class so that the state can move forward.”
It further said “Rather than call for total reconciliation for peace to return to Rivers State, Junaid is happy that Amaechi is operating like an emperor, wasting public funds on selfish ambition of being a vice-presidential candidate, causing friction, overheating the polity, and behaving like a fly that has no advisers.
“What did Mrs Jonathan do that other First Ladies did not do and even more? Nigerians saw it happen where a first Lady was the de facto President and was calling the shot in Aso Rock and yet Junaid saw nothing wrong with that. Or is Mrs Jonathan being abused by Junaid because her husband is a President from a minority tribe in Nigeria?” the League queried.
Reiterating the resolve of the people of South-South to resist any attempt to deny the region of the Presidency in 2015, the League said the political crisis rocking the Rivers chapter of the PDP is not new in the history of Nigeria and rejected any attempt to compare it to the crisis of the old Western Region.
The group also suggested a way out of the current face-off between Amaechi and the state police commissioner, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu saying, “The relationship between the police and the governor in the state can be better handled if both sides drop pride but to say that Amaechi is right over and above all the other Rivers State men and women he has been oppressing and intimidating with the police in the past is to say the least, shameful on the part of Junaid.”
Junaid is very wrong to call the First Lady an illiterate but why is Rivers lawyers turning this to a war between South South and the North. Did Junaid indicated that he was speaking on behalf of any group of people? Lawyers are supposed to be learned people. Please some of us who are not relying on Govt contracts need peace to operate in Nigeria.
Dr junaid Mohammed is at it again like the proverbial tortoise, that never ceases to make himself relevant in every occasion.. Sometimes one is left to wonder when the loquacious and garulous Ango Abdullahi vacated his self arrogated office as the mouth piece of the North for the inconsequential and educated-illiterate called Junaid . Junaid Mohammed is a man who has an irresponsible penchant for making mounains out of a grain of sand. The paucity of his wisdom has always made him him reclusive on national issuues. In attempt to to play his role as a tribal hero he unwittingly dabbled in an area he’s most unsuited for. His lack of understanding of the history of this country is not far fetched when one considers his attempt to compare the happenings in Rivers State with the Wild wild West. Situation. Sine the Boko Haram onset, Junaid has remained silent because it is happening at his backyard . His silence stems from the fact that , in his dumbness he’s clueless on how to arrest the situation involving his brothers and because as a co sponsor of this godless blood thirsty terrorists, he saw it as an opportunity to bring down the govt of a Southern President as long as the north were denied it. He has failed to realise that the days of nothern hegemony were over and that he belongs to the back door of history. As a history student Junaid is a pathological liar , as he failed willingly to see that what Dame Patience Jonathan has has done in terms of involvement in national politics was trippled by the wife of her husbands predecessor . By the way, Junaids disrespect for women speaks elequently from the attacks and insults on the person of the first lady of Nigeria. Junaid should let the world know why he shamelessly conceals his wives from public view while he had the effrontry to sprak disparagingly on a woman who is sold out to the cause of bettering the lots of women in this country. Junaid is a local and tribal politician who speaks an infinite deal of rubbish and mumuism. Junaid must rise above the parochial sentiments of shying away from the truth. By the way, when did the North become so interested in the political leadership of a Southerner if they have nothing to gain by supporting governor Amaechi? For the Junaids to speak as the upholders of justice in the case of Amaechi,s macabre dance only shows they have an axe to grind with mr president, Nigeria and the whole of the South. Let him deal with the terrorist crises in his fathers compound before falsifying the antecedents of history for illiterates like him. GOD bless Nigeria.
